DESCRIPTION:Kiln Carving – Making patterns in glass\nTutor: Katrina Jackson \nLearn how to “carve” glass\, to create and cut patterns from ceramic fibre paper. Understand the types of glass to use; and kiln firing processes involved. Safety procedures for using glass and ceramic fibre products are covered. A great beginner workshop as no glass cutting skills are required. Experienced glass users will also benefit by learning new techniques to add to their glass creating repetoire. Participants will make two glass “kiln carved” projects. \nWorkshop is not a replacement for beginners’ fusing and slumping course. Participants will not be taught how to care for and use the Guild kilns. \nNumbers: Minimum 5\, Maximum 6 \nPrerequisite: No experience necessary. \nCost: Includes all materials as well as kiln firings. No hidden costs.

SUMMARY:IFS3: Intermediate Fusing and Slumping
DESCRIPTION:This course is for members who have completed a Beginners Fusing and Slumping course at the Guild to experiment and create their own fused designs with a tutor to support.  The tutor will assist in choosing patterns and molds at the appropriate skill level; suggest project design choices; and assist in selecting glass. Students will also be helped in more intricate glass cutting techniques and project composition as well as setting the kiln.  Come prepared with design ideas and inspirations. \nStudents will need to purchase their own glass\, frit\, dots and other fused accessories. Tools are available for use but it is recommended students purchase their own scorers. \nNumbers: Minimum 5\, Maximum 8  \n \nPrerequisite: Guild membership and completion of the Beginners Fusing and Slumping course.
